The place is known for the huge bridge on the Indian Ocean; the bridge’s name is Pamban Bridge, and it lies between the Indian mainland and Rameshwaram Island. The bridge is called the most dangerous bridge in India, or you can say the most exciting bridge to cross. After crossing the bridge, you will reach the Rameshwaram mainland.

How to reach the Spiritual place, Rameshwaram?

Rameshwaram can be reached directly by train; all the Railway stations of Chennai are connected with the Rameshwaram Railway Station. Mainly, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Thanjavur, and Chennai are connected. A railway track is made over the Indian Ocean to reach the Rameshwaram, and the train has to pass the Pamban Bridge. You can experience the thrill of crossing the bridge. 

Madurai Airport is the nearest airport to reach Rameshwaram. The airport is 150 kilometres far from Rameshwaram. Tuticorin is another nearest airport to Rameshwaram, which is 140 kilometres far from Rameshwaram. You can take a taxi to reach Rameshwaram.

Agni Theertham

The place is mainly known for the Agni Theertham, a Char Dham. Indians believe that visiting Char Dham will make them connect with God. People used to bathe in the water of Agni Theertham lake. Prayers and recitals occur according to people’s schedules to bathe in Agni Theertham lake’s water. The place is named Agni Theertham because, in the Sanskrit language, the word Agni means fire, and the word Theertham means holy water. The lake is located beside Sri Ramanathaswamy temple.

Villoondi Tirtham

Villoondi Tirtham is a beach that consists of a natural body. People used to bathe in the water of the beach. Prayers and recitals are also part of the teeth. People of Rameshwaram believe that Rama has shot a spring into the beach to make the beach’s water drinkable. There is also a belief that many legends of Ramayana had recovered from the beach’s water.

Jatayu Teertha

Jatayu Teertha is built in the memory of Jatayu. The most loyal eagle of Lord Rama died while saving the life of Rama. The Jatayu eagle is buried in the soil, and the temple is built over the burial of Jatayu, and still, people worship Jatayu for protecting and saving the life of Lord Rama. When buried, the Jatayu’s body was pitted with Vidhuti (holy ash that helps the spirit go to heaven easily); it is also people’s belief.

Laxmana Tirtham

Laxmana Tirtham is a temple built in memory of Laxman. The temple is structured very lavishly—the temple’s architectural work shows the real importance of Hindu culture and tradition. The temple has a statue of Laxman in it, and there are many statues outside of the temple. The temple has statues of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita to show the deep connection between them.

Dhanushkodi Temple and Beach

Dhanushkodi Temple has shifted after a cyclone. The temple got completely vanished after the hurricane. The people of Rameshwaram again built the temple and started worshipping it. The island was converted and distributed into an arrow and bow-shaped. Rameshwaram’s people believe that the island’s arrow side has natural powers, and people built the temple on the arrow-shaped island.
