    History of Kinnaur Kailash

    2

Kinnaur Kailash, or Kinner Kailash, is a revered mountain located in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Standing at 6,050 meters, it holds a significant place in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati reside here. Kinnaur Kailash is the fourth most important peak among the five sacred Kailash peaks in the Himalayas, known as the Panch Kailash or “Five Kailashas.” The other four are Mount Kailash (the most important), Adi Kailash, Shikhar Kailash (Shrikhand Mahadev Kailash), and Manimahesh Kailash. Despite sometimes being confused with Mount Kailash in Tibet, Kinnaur Kailash is a distinct and sacred site. The mountain is famed for its 79-foot-tall Shiv Lingam, which is said to change colour throughout the day, attracting many pilgrims due to its spiritual significance. The area, influenced by its proximity to Tibet, features a blend of Hindu and Buddhist cultures, with pagoda-style architecture and monasteries common in the region. The trek around Kinnaur Kailash offers stunning views of hanging glaciers, apple orchards, and scenic streams, making it a challenging yet enchanting adventure.
