    How to reach Khatu shyam Temple खाटू श्याम 

    You can reach here through any transport medium, i.e., airline, railways, and roadways. The closest airport is in Jaipur, around 95 km from the temple. You can finish the rest of your journey by using a car or a taxi.

    The railway station is located in Ringus, which is around 19 km far from the temple. The roadways are well maintained, and also you can take public transport to reach the temple. 

    Festivals at Khatu Shyam Temple

    Falgun Mela is the greatest festival that is celebrated at the place every year. It is celebrated for five days, i.e., Ashtami to dwashi in Falgun month (Feb/March). Apart from devotees and pilgrims, many musicians visit the place during the festival, singing bhajan and aarti for Shyam Baba. 

    This period is well known as Nishan Yatra to Khatu shyam. Numerous devotees start their foot yatra from the nearby town of Ringus to Khatu Dham. During this time, some people also played with colours and distributed food to people experiencing poverty on the way. Devotees enjoy the journey as the marriage of Khatu Shyam ji.

    Numerous legends are attached to the origin of the Khatu Shyam temple. According to popular belief, after the Mahabharata battle ended, Barbarika’s head was buried in the village of Khatoo. The burial site remains unidentified for many years, but later, after the Kalyug period began. And one day, a cow neared the site, and her milk started flowing out of her udder. After this, the villagers were surprised and dug up the ground near the incident. And they found Barbarika’s head buried inside or handed it to Brahmin, who kept and worshipped it for many years. 

    Another version of the story states that King Roop Singh Chauhan’s wife dreamed about Barbarika’s head being buried in the spot there. She has asked to take his head and build a temple at the same site where the head is found. So the place was dug up, and the head was discovered or installed in the temple constructed at the spot. 

    The architecture of the Khatu Shyam Ji temple

    The temple’s structure boasts rich architecture and has built out of lime mortar, marble, tiles, and rare stone. The prayer hall is called Jagmohan, just outside the centre, and the entrance and exit gates are made of marble. Also, the hallways have elaborate paintings on the walls that depict mythological creatures. Apart from this, a garden near the temple called Shyam Bagicha is fascinating. 

    There is also the samadhi of a great devotee named Aloo Singh within the garden. The ‘Shyam Kund’ from where the Lord’s head was discovered is also near the temple. Devotees dip in this pond, which is considered a holy temple. There are also two other temples, Gopinath and Gaurishankar, which are placed nearby the temple.
