United Nations celebrates World Tourism Day on 27th September every year with different themes. This year, the UN panels will meet in Riyadh to discuss the betterment of the tourism industry worldwide.
Why is World Tourism Day celebrated?
This event is celebrated by the UN to raise awareness among people about tourism and diversity, and about tourism’s worth economically, socially, and politically. The event also raises aware about healthy and eco tourism that preserves tourist areas.
This year’s theme is “Tourism and Green Investment”.
With increased tourism comes the risk of losing the important attractions to damage. Global warming has also increased considerably in the last few years leading to environmental damage of many beautiful places across the world. This theme focuses on how we can promote eco tourism by travelling responsibly. It also promotes sustainable travel and minimization of the sector’s ecological footprint.
