Palakkad Fort was built in the 16th century by the Zamorins of Calicut. The fort was constructed to safeguard the kingdom against the Portuguese’s advancement in the Indian Ocean. Palakkad Fort was a successful deterrent, and the Portuguese could never capture the fort.
