Daulatabad Fort: the fortified citadel in Aurangabad

If you plan a trip to Aurangabad, it is abundantly clear that your trip will only be complete if you visit this splendid fortress built on the hilltop. This fort is situated in Maharashtra. This is the only precious fort ruled and achieved by betrayal and novel fraud. This is not because the king who rules this fort was mighty. This is because of the fort’s power structure. The fort’s name was “Devgiri” before the Mughal Emperor, Muhammad Tughlak, conquered it.

How to Reach

The fort is situated around 27 km away from Aurangabad and lies a half-hour drive. Besides this, buses ran from Aurangabad to Daulantabed Fort every half-hour. You can also hire a car or taxi, which the tour operators provide.

Exploring the fort and places to visit

You will find many shops outside the fort, as snacks are not allowed there. The main gate of the fort is named “Mahakot.” The entrance is built so strong that if an elephant attack’s the gate, it gets injured. Seven gates show the beauty and safety of the fort. After that, as you walk further in the fort towards the second gate, you will observe Cannons that still look new to use. As you approach the third gate, you will see three Columns (Stambh) showing the spiritual and traditional approaches. Each column is as strong as it was earlier. Crossing from the fourth gate, observing “Chand Minar,” which has three floors with 240 stairs. At the base of the fort, there’s a Maze to confuse an enemy. It is so confusing and black that an enemy cannot pass. After that, there’s a Ganpati Temple and Barah-Dhari Palace. The Barah- Dhari Palace was made for the Mughal army to stay or rest in the summer. Many dynasties like the Mughals, Tuglaqs, and Yadavs had ruled the fort. There are many places to visit in Daulatabad nearby the fort. The restaurants and hotels are quite far from the fort because they are built at the hill’s peak. You have your food with you. You can hire a tourist guide at the fort’s entrance to fill yourself with true knowledge about the fort. The tourist guide will tell you the remaining story behind the construction of “Miners.” He tells you the history of the whole fort and covers every single part of the fort. You have to park your vehicle down from the hill because it is prohibited to take in the fort.

A piece of advice? It takes 2.5 hours to explore. Take your water bottles with you to quench your thirst and enjoy.
