Chapora Fort – A Must-Visit Destination in Goa

Chapora Fort: The Famous Fort of Goa

Chapora Fort, displaying its exquisite beauty, is situated in Goa, twenty kilometres from “Panji.” This ancient laterite fort built by the Chapora Riverbanks has long been abandoned from a military standpoint but stands majestic and is an everlasting and durable historical monument. The fort is constructed mainly at that corner of the “Chapora Lake,” i.e., Chapora Fort. This location is renowned for its stunning scenery and breathtaking sunset views. This fort, also called Shahpura Fort, was built by “Adil Shah.” Sambhaji Maharaj captured the fort in 1684; Marathas captured it in 1739, and then again by “Purtgaalees” in 1741. Now, eighty per cent of the fortress has only one store (Khandar), and the remaining twenty per cent of the fort are memorable fortunes of history. Tourists endure and feel the silence of the fort, and it seems fascinating. Evening time is the best time to visit the fort.

How to Reach?

The fort is easily accessible and can be reached anywhere in Goa. The fort needs direct train or air connectivity. Road connectivity is proven to be the best one to the reached fort. You can also climb the hill of Vagator Beach by the road passes just right to the fort. From there, a small road will guide you to the mountain’s base, where the top of Chapora Fort is situated.
