Kovalam- “City of Beaches and Ayurveda”

The city is around 13km from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, the idyllic coastal town of Kerala. The city is popular for its three adjacent crescent-low tidal beaches and shaped shallow water. Kovalam city is dotted with numerous resorts and ayurvedic massage centres. In earlier times, the city is a popular fishing village among the local people. In the 1930s, Kovalam starts persuading tourists to the place and shot famous in the hippie era of the 1970s. 

Ayurvedic and massage centres have become the most famous treat along with Yoga, Meditation, and other cultural activities. Kovalam is the city having its popular shopping destination that gives rich spices, handicrafts, and many more. So it has become the favourite takeaway of the town. Apart from this, the place offers many stunning beaches, nightlife, and more activities to make your stay more enjoyable. 

How to reach Kovalam

The city does not have an airport or railway station. The nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport, located 15 km from Kovalam. It is well connected with all major cities of the country. 

The nearest railway station is Thiruvananthapuram Central which is 16 km away from Kovalam. The road connectivity also starts from the Thiruvananthapuram main road. So you can take the bus, taxi, or any other medium to reach Kovalam.

The city is popular in the entire country for its Ayurvedic Massage centres. Ayurvedic centres include Laxmi House Ayurveda and spa, Ayur Kerala Ayurvedic, and the Chakra Ayurvedic centres. These centres offer many options like body purification therapy, rheumatic therapy, anti-stress treatment, etc. The Chakra Ayurvedic resort centres offer attractive packages during the monsoon season. So it is the best season for treatment and relaxing your body. 

Beaches Of Kovalam

The town has many beaches that attract numerous tourists to the place. So they get amazing experiences from the area; also, it enhances the stay of tourists.

Hawa Beach

The beach provides you with many water sports facilities to enjoy the sight. People come here via bus and train. Also, a great place to try different delicious cuisine is the nearby restaurant from the beach. At Hawa Beach, you can witness a captivating sunset and observe the fishermen departing into the sea in the morning while singing a traditional folk song, providing a unique experience.

Samudra Beach

Located in the northern region of Kovalam city, this beach is known for being the least crowded. Additionally, it is predominantly frequented by fishermen for their fishing activities.

Lighthouse Beach

It is the largest beach in Kovalam, named after a 30 m high lighthouse on the coast. It houses an observatory; you can access it by stairs and lift. This observatory offers a fascinating view of the beach, and you can also see the popular Beemapalli and Poovar mosques from there.

Vellayani Lake

The lake is situated 7km away from Kovalam in Trivandrum, Kerala, and is well known as the most popular freshwater lake. This lake is well known as ‘Velliyani Kayal’ in the regional language Malayalam. Vellayani Lake is surrounded by 7.5 acres and is a magnificent water source for irrigation and drinking. The lake is the sight of Vellayani Agricultural University, a must-see place. You can also walk for an evening and enjoy the cool breeze or lotus that blooms on the lake. 

Water Sports in Kovalam

Kovalam is a fascinating beach surrounded by rows of green palm groves. The beach offers a breathtaking view of the beach with a wide variety of water sports activities. Kovalam Beach is divided into three parts. The lighthouse beach lies in the south, the hawah is in the centre, and the northernmost part is known as Samudra. Tourists frequently visit these places and offer delicious food, restaurants, and resorts. 

Hawah Beach

This isolated beach is popular for its fascinating sunset views. It is well known as Eve’s beach for it being the first topless beach and renowned as the second largest beach in India. However, topless bathing is banned now. 

Samudra Beach

This beach is well known as the clear beach in Kovalam. It is the greatest foreland that separates this beach from the southern side. Also, it is the best place for honeymoon couples, and November to February is the best time to visit the beach. This beach is the bundle of the bucket that serves you its best services and various activities. So it enhances your stay at the beach. 

From a tourist’s point of view

Tourists can visit the place between September to March in terms of weather for travelling in Kovalam. The area receives heavy rainfalls in monsoons, but it is good to give new life to yourself in great weather within your resort or to take ayurvedic. Kovalam city offers delicious food to everyone, and you easily stay there. To learn more about the area, you must visit to gain new experiences and enjoy various beach activities.
