Chopta Trek: A Snowy Adventure in the Heart of India

Chopta Trek

The Chopta trek is popularly known as  ‘Mini Switzerland’ of India. It is located approximately 30 kilometers from the Ukhimath and around 170 kilometers from Rishikesh. The other mountain from the Chopta Trek is Tungnath – Chandrashila trek. The place has many exciting and memorable views from the top of it. The trek has many grasslands and dense forests. The trek route has started from the Chopta takes one to Tungnath(which is the Highest Lord Shiva’s Temple).

The Tungnath Trek is five kilometers from the Chopta Trek, and the steep climbing makes this trek rigorous. The Chopta trek and Tungnath trek are easy to walk. The hike is easy to stroll and ideal for the first-time trekker. The place is safe and secure to travel. It is not advisable to trek after sunset because the dangerous wildlife in the dense forest Chopta region falls under Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary.

Is Chopta trek have snowfall?

The Omkar Ratneshwar Mahadev temple is located at a distance of 20 kilometers from Chopta Trek. The other name of the temple Devariya Nag Temple. The second name shows clearly that the temple is dedicated to Nag Devta. The temple is mainly situated in Deoria Tal, a bit far from Saari village.

The temple’s architecture resembles the other temple named Kedarnath and Tungnath located in Uttarakhand in terms of Mandap and Garbhgriha. The temple’s amazing feature is when pouring the water on the lingam, which is in the temple, the water goes down from the lingam and forms a shadow resembling a snake. The temple is faced towards the Tungnath Temple.

The Deoria Tal is a lake located on the road to Ukhimath-Chopta in Uttarakhand. The lake is situated at a high altitude of approximately 2400 meters.  The lake is surrounded by lush green and heavy trees. The grasslnds around the lake make it more attractive to visit. It is about 4 kilometers from the mainland of villages named Mastura and Sari.

The lake gets completely frozen in winters, and the area around the lake gets covered with snow-covered mountains in the backdrop. The Himalayan Ranges around the lake make it more special to visit and camp.

Ukhimath

The Ukhimath is a town, and it is full of religious places that can be visited the whole year. The site is located at a distance of approximately 45 kilometers from the Chopta Trek. It is mainly a Hindu pilgrimage site in the Rudraprayag district. Ukhimath is situated at an altitude of about 1500 meters, and the destination is located at a distance of 41 km from Rudraprayag.

The place can be listed as a important place if you are o the way to visit the Kedarnath temple and Madhyamaheshwar temple because the Ukhimath is close to these temples and should be seen once in your life. The architectural work on the outside and inside of the temple is fascinating to watch. 

Tungnath

Tungnath temple has the highest altitude in the world. The temple is mainly dedicated to Lord Shiva, and it has the peak of the five Panch Kedar temples located in the Rudraprayag district. The Tungnath temple forms the Mandakini and Alaknanda river valleys. It is the origin point of the Mandakini and Alaknanda river valleys. 

The exciting and fascinating views of the temple will make you speechless. The views of the Himalayan Ranges on the backside of the Tungnath Temple are also priceless.

Is the Tungnath temple open now?

The Tungnath trek is open 12 months a year. You can go any time to hike, but the temple is closed after mid of November until April. It is advisable to go from April till early November because the Tungnath temple is open for visitors.
